In our English lessons this month, we have been working on dialoguing together with some simple phrases, and the students are becoming more and more comfortable with their language. We are now diving into some present simple verbs, and giving time to practice these, while also explaining the nuances of the irregular verbs and what to watch out for, and what you just have to memorize. We have time to do homework with them at the end. The students at Casa Ray show promise, they are all quite interested in English and we go over many rules and correct pronunciation. Pray for diligence for all involved in the English lessons.

Summer is just around the corner & we want to let you know about the great opportunity we have to take a child to camp! Opportunities surface from time to time for kids in the care of the state to go to a summer camp, and this year it is through the Baptist church here in town and YOU!!! Your sponsorship of $120 makes it possible for one child to attend one week of camp with their expenses paid. So far, we have 21 children accounted for. This year, the theme for the week of camp will be on Character Traits.
Send your gift to My Brother’s Keeper, PO Box 11, Roxbury, PA, 17251 (Please put “Avadanei summer camp” in the memo line). For Paypal donations, go to http://www.mbk.ro & send a note to lukeholtry@yahoo.com specifying the donation is for “Avadanei summer camp.”
The last camp offered was held at Voroneti campground in 2011.
Update** As of April 6, we have 31 sponsorships. Praise the Lord!! We are almost to our goal!
As far as the Saturday programs at the State-run orphanage go, they are up in full swing and we have been doing more skits in the story time that involve the kids. We have our usual games, craft, and songtime. We’ve been digging deep in our storehouse of game ideas and remembering ones we enjoyed, and we’re blessed to be more organized now with our “song packets”, an idea from a sister in our group of volunteers. It takes a team sometimes to think practically. 🙂 We are also looking for ways to involve the older kids of 14 and 15 who used to be involved, but now are grown up. Sometimes they come for the story and Lucian has an extra talk for them while there is a craft for the younger kids.
As a type of excursion and a way to break the monotony of the month, we started bringing kids to the church once a month who are involved in our programs to a bigger gathering. They are from 2 orphanages and a village. On January 17th we had 50 kids. We played some new games, sang some Bible songs for kids, and our story was on the Miracles of Jesus: Lazarus rising from the dead. In this particular lesson, we did the story as a skit with the kids involved. They had fun learning the story this way, and in the future we will try to do more types of skits. A lot of time in Romanian learning, it is one-way but we are looking for more interaction as a way for kids to practice what they’re learning with courage. We hope this monthly outing remains a nice reward for the kids who are involved. The next week, we started learning a skit on Peter’s Mother-in-Law, and hope to present it to the main group when we go to the bigger gathering at the church in Feb.
The first Saturday program held at the church, there were 50 kids! Here they are listening to the story of Lazarus presented as a skit.

Pray for: the kids to remember their lines, and act with enthusiasm!, clear guidance to be set and maintained in our visits, the Lord to be a light and the childrens’ questions to be answered well. The Lord bless you and keep you..
English lessons have been going well and we’re blessed with some helpers! We are privileged to give English lessons at Elena Doamna Orphanage Fridays and Casa Ray orphanage on Thursdays. Now we are discovering the levels of the kids who come regularly and we are working on basic nouns, greetings, the letters and numbers. At ED there are 13 we work with in the 6th-10th grades, and there are 16 we work with at Casa Ray in the 3rd-9th grades.
Learning greetings at ED.
